I help you make sense of what the AI transformation is actually doing to the world of work — and to your job.
Tokenised Human isn’t an AI newsletter for tech-heads (although they are most welcome), or leaders to spin speculative fiction about utopian futures of work. It is a place to unpack the decisions — or lack thereof — that are right now determining how AI will reshape individual lives, workforces, cultures and economies.
Each week I break down what is happening at the intersection of tech, politics and culture, explain why it matters and what — if anything — we all can do about it.
We get the world we design and regulate for.
Unpacking the choices shaping work and culture
This is a newsletter for anyone who works and finds stability and a sense of identity and security in doing so. It’s for the people being disrupted, replaced or just feeling unsettled by shifting expectations and demands in their every day lives.
AI’s march through the office isn’t physics. It’s a long series of choices, made by regular people (for now) — some of whom would rather we didn’t ask to see the minutes.
This newsletter reports on the choices they make and the consequences those choices bring.
Independent Analysis, Delivered Every Thursday
Every Thursday I’ll be in your inbox with analysis, original reporting, interviews, or some combination of all three, depending on what the week throws up. It’s written from where the workers are standing, not from behind the desk of whoever’s selling the change to them.
Everything is free to read.
Who the hell is Rachael Bolton?
I’m Rachael Bolton — a 20 year veteran journalist, researcher and mixed media artist. Over my career I’ve reported tech, business, work and culture, sat through the summits, read the reports, and interviewed the policymakers, the executives and the people they manage.
Tokenised Human is a continuation of that work, now under my own name and point of view.
Get to know my work...
Start with this breakdown of what happens to job security when the people in charge treat AI like physics instead of a choice.
Or maybe this piece looking at why people using AI gives us the ick.
Or if you ever get the impulse to burn down your corporate life and move to the country I suggest this one.
There’s also a podcast coming in September: long-form conversations with the thinkers, leaders, artists and researchers trying to work out what all this means for being human. More on that to come.
